The Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) is a sports event catered to serious runners as well as amateur ones from both local andinternational grounds. Uniting thousands of marathon enthusiasts annually, the run is well known for its captivating sight of the sunrise as it reveals the panoramic view of the Penang Island, the Pearl of the Orient.
Held every year since 1985, people from all over the world come together to participate in this thrilling occasion of running across the thirdlongest bridge in the world - The Penang Bridge, Penangites very own pride and joy. The PBIM, held in November, is the only time of the year that thishonourable national landmark is ever closed from traffic for several hours.
Very popular among sportsmen, school-going youngsters, working adults and families in search of a good time, the PBIM comprises of a full marathon, a half marathon, a quarter marathon and a 10 kilometer fun run opened to those above the age of 13. The Penang Bridge International Marathon is a much anticipated affair as trophies, finisher medals, and certificates among other prizes are given out to those who have accomplished the race in their best time as well as to those who take part in this enjoyable event.
